LG 60PK550 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review
I started studying for a while the purchase of our new TV. I researched plasma vs LCD vs LED. I have read many reviews of various TV and finally took the decision to buy LG 60PK550. We had a rear projection TV before this, he had 10 years. After putting the new TV in the place which was absolutely blown away by the quality of the image. I rate the following elements:
DELIVERY SETUP: Setup was a breeze. Connecting it to U-Verse with an HDMI cable was easy, even if we had to call U-Verse digital content directly to obtain active, not a big problem. The initial configuration screen for the TV was easy to navigate and we have had and running in minutes. This TV is heavy and uncomfortable, even if the dimensions in order to help ensure that you have set it as it takes two people to get it out of the box. We have not mounted to the wall, only setting on a TV stand. The stand is sturdy and wide and takes a fine TV, even for its size and weight. The TV was mounted at the rear where you can attach to the wall to make sure it can not fall forward if you have small children, etc. Delivery was on time. In this case, the delivery was through AIT all over the world and I contacted them directly for a delivery time and after I got off the phone with their automated system tried to call as well. The box was just a little 'thrown on one side which was a bit' cause for concern, but the TV was fine and had not a scratch on it.
QUALITY IMAGE: I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the image. Crisp and clear. We have seen in HD and avatar images are simply stunning. There was no blur and bloom of the blacks I've seen on other plasmas I've seen. The blacks are deep and good. The action sequences are crisp and clear, blur-free we noticed what-so-ever. Very smooth action. The TV automatically adjusts the brightness of the room so we never had to adjust. Our room is big enough and the TV is the right format. There we no area on the TV and the picture is perfect.
SOUND: The TV has speakers and turned back even if they are the best are certainly not the worst either. It will be much better when you get everything routed through a surround system, but it is not as bad. We had problems with any hollow noise that others have commented.
REFLECTION: This was a big concern for us. We have two large windows at the top of a cathedral ceiling and two smaller windows, and we knew we had a lot of glare. There are some, but it is actually less than what we had in our old TV and I was amazed by this. Background light is known but for the rest of reflection do not see much at all. To be honest though, we have a large entertainment center and I have a TV built a little 'back, probably about three centimeters or so. This can be cut some of the glare.
DISTANCE: Basic, but functional. It 'pretty easy to use. Switching inputs is easy, without stirring. The menu options are easy to reach and intuitive. It can stand up to some punishment as our dog got hold of it the first day and is still working.
CONS: There is no option for Internet connectivity on this TV. Is good for us as we intend to get a wireless connection Blu-ray next month so we chose to put our money into the quality of the images and let the blu-ray do the rest. This could be a problem for some is why we talk about here. We did see some out-of-sync audio when watching a show. I only noticed it once and it was a little 'uncomfortable but bearable. I surfed around trying to reproduce the problem and have not been able to do so as of yet. I did check using our DVD to see if the problem would occur there and not have. I bet it was an issue in the d / l of HD content, but can not say for sure, but wanted to mention in the review process.
TOTAL: This TV is a great value. I would recommend this purchase to anyone who wants amazing picture quality. I believe that in a small room the TV would be a bit 'overwhelming as much dominates our room and ours is a large hall. I can not say enough good things about LG 60PK550 TV.
